Listed places of worship grant extended

The Minister of State for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has confirmed that the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme has been extended until at least 2025/2026.

Church projects with a cost of over £1,000 can be entitled to claim back the 20% VAT, but a new limit means that the maximum amount a church can claim back across their projects is £25,000.

The extension shows that listed places of worship are a key part of UK heritage, bringing members of the community together.

Talking about the extension, DAC secretary in our diocese Kevin Tucker said: “I welcome the announcement that this grant scheme has been extended.

“We have a wonderful and diverse range of listed churches in our diocese, and I am sure many will be able to benefit from this scheme.”

Almost £350 million has already been given out under the scheme, with a further £23 million expected to be handed out with the extension

Speaking after the announcement, Heritage Minister Sir Chris Bryant said in a : “There are many reasons to care for our faith buildings. They matter to faith communities, they provide a range of vital services to the public regardless of faith or background and many of them are architecturally stunning. I am delighted that despite the tough fiscal challenges we face, we are able to keep this scheme going for a further year to support faith buildings in every part of the country.”
