Bishop Trevor celebrates with Kent is Delicious winners

  • Hoath Primary receives £300 competition prize

  • Bishop Trevor joins the primary school for assembly

The Rt Revd Trevor Willmott, Bishop of Dover, joined pupils and staff of Hoath Primary School to celebrate winning this year’s Kent is Delicious competition.

The annual cooking contest was open to all primary aged children from across the county and the live final was held at the Kent County Show in July.

This year’s theme was breakfast and all the ingredients had to be in season and sourced locally. Everything from smoothies to Bagpuss pancakes made an appearance but Hoath stole the show with a unique recipe for savoury porridge.

No strangers to Kent is Delicious, the school had entered for many years before taking the title. Headteacher Andrea Noake thanked Susan Beardwell and Georgina Champion who have worked so hard on the project. She said: “I’m delighted we won the competition and I am very proud of our culinary pupils and staff.

“We’ve been runners up for three years and now we’ve won.  It’s all about perseverance.

“It’s not always about getting things right. Sometimes you try things and it goes wrong and sometime it goes right. It’s about that having a go until you get it right! “

The competition is organised by the Diocese of 兔子先生’s Communities and Partnerships Framework and is supported by Produced in Kent and Kent Agricultural Society.

The Rt Revd Trevor Willmott, Bishop of Dover said:  “Congratulations to all those who took part and I particularly remember young Harri explaining about and getting me to try the savoury porridge!

“Encouraging young people to learn about where their food is from and how to cook it is great to see. I started to cook when I was seven years old and I love cooking.

“If you learn how to cook, you’ll never be without friends; preparing the food, bringing people together and sharing friendships. It’s a good skill to have and I am delighted Hoath Primary has won this year’s competition.”

Winners Hoath Primary School received £300 and Wickhambreaux Primary School, Goodnestone Primary School and St George's Primary School in Wrotham all received £100 each.
