Bishop Rose plays a key role in the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla
Bishop Rose played a key role at the Coronation of King Charles lll and Queen Camilla on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey. She carried the Patten from which their Majesties received the bread during Holy Communion. She also gave Queen Camilla an item of regalia – the Rod, which mirrored what the King received symbolising her support and commitment to His Majesty.
Bishop Rose, the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Revd Guli Francis-Dehqani and the Bishop of London, the Rt Revd Sarah Mullaly, were the first female bishops to ever take part in a coronation. Afterwards, Bishop Rose said, “I was excited, surprised and deeply honoured to have been a part of this historic once in a life-time moment. It was such an honour and a privilege, and it will stay with me forever. Their Majesties have been in my prayers and so too were the people of Jamaica. I did not walk alone in that procession, I was carried on the shoulders of the people of Jamaica whose life story, for better or worse, is intertwined with the story of the UK and its Royal Family.”
