Waypoint Project Live Nativity Saturday 16th December Maidstone Town Centre
What will the Mayor of Maidstone Say?
On Saturday 16th December well known locations across Maidstone’s town centre will be transformed into scenes from the traditional Christmas story for a creative re-telling of the nativity story involving local choirs, volunteer actors and live animals. There will be 5 separate scenes across 4 different locations.
The story begins at 1pm in Mary’s parents’ home in Nazareth (Remembrance Square) when angel Gabriel appears to Mary.
Mary and Joseph (Josie Biggs and Josh Pattison) will then start their journey with a donkey to Bethlehem (Jubilee Square). The couple will knock on the doors of a number of pubs and restaurants, looking for a place to stay before knocking on the door of the town hall. What will the mayor, (councillor Malcom Greer) say?
Three shepherds will be found taking care of their sheep on the hills of Bethlehem (Brenchley Gardens) where they will be greeted by a choir of angels. The shepherds will then head off to search for the new baby, asking for help along the way, particularly from shoppers in Fremlin Walk.
Meanwhile 3 wise men will have stopped with their camel and set up camp outside Herod’s Palace (County Hall). The wise men will leave their camel safely at their camp, before following a star (along Week Street) to find baby Jesus in Bethlehem.
This special event is a fun and creative opportunity reminding us all of the Christmas story’s message of love and hope amidst all the busyness of Christmas shopping and preparations. Individual 15minute scenes can be enjoyed on their own. The production has 30 minute gaps in between each scene to allow time for shopping as people make their way from one location to another.
The Waypoint Project, a collaboration of over 26 churches, is delighted to partner with One Maidstone to bring the Christmas story into the heart of Maidstone.
Andrew Sewell, chairman of The Waypoint Project says: “It’s such a joy to have so many churches working with different partners to put the Jesus story where it belongs – at the centre of Maidstone’s Christmas”
Several of the church’s leaders are taking an active role in the production, including the Archdeacon of Maidstone, Venerable Stephen Taylor, who will be found looking after sheep in Brenchley Gardens.
The Live nativity will run from 1-4pm on Saturday 16th December and is FREE for all the community of Maidstone. Don’t forget your camera if you want a picture with a live camel in Maidstone this Christmas!
