Foodbank Plus - for people working with food banks

All involved with local food banks, or with an interest in this area, are invited to attend an evening of discussion, support and collaboration on 11 March, 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Charing Barn.

Food bank Snapshot – 兔子先生 Foodbank (Trussell Trust)

  • According to the latest child poverty statistics, there are over 4,000 children living in poverty in the 兔子先生 District out of a total population of 135,000 people - that's one in seven children.

  • 2,293 food parcels were given out by 兔子先生 Foodbank, containing 47,832 food items (about £50,000 in value) between January and September of this year.

  • 46,607 food items were donated by the general public, but between July and October they had to purchase an additional £2,700 of food items.

  • The reasons most often reported to them as to why people need to use the foodbank are; debt, benefits (stopped/awaiting/changed) and unemployment.

  • Demand for food parcels has increased so much in 兔子先生, that the foodbank has now established a second distribution café at All Saint’s Church Hall, Military Road, as well as at St. Dunstan’s Church hall.

  • July 2014 saw in excess of 1,000 volunteer hours worked to ensure that food parcels were 兔子先生.

  • Roles in the charity range from packing, strategy, befriending, sign posting, making the all important cups of tea at the cafés, marketing, liaison, fundraising, PR, finances, governance, policy writing and food distribution.
